Winter Para athletes busy as Northern Hemisphere season kicks off

Para snowboarder Carl Murphy had his first races in Landgraaf, The Netherlands with Banked Slalom Europa and World Cups where he finished 11th and 10th. Carl made his return to competition in August following a long injury break and is working hard to get back to top form for the Paralympic Winter Games in March next year.

“Too many small mistakes cost me in a tight and competitive field,” said Carl.  “But we will take this as some valuable training and continue to build to the end goal.”

Carl then travelled to Pyha, Finland to compete in World Para Snowboard World Cups and finished 8th and 9th in Boarder Cross. Carl hasn’t competed in this discipline for the past two seasons so had mixed feelings about his results.

“While 8th is normally something I wouldn't be happy with I need to remember this was my first SBX race back after my serious knee injuries," he said. "I have to remember how far I have come from 12 months ago. It's all promising signs and considering it's my first race back and I’m meeting all my targets for this time of the season it's a good sign moving into the next phase.”

Meanwhile Para alpine skiers Adam Hall and Corey Peters are preparing for their first World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup, which starts in St Moritz, Switzerland on 11 December. We’ll be able to watch and cheer them on from back here in sunny NZ with all of this year’s World Cups being livestreamed on the World Cup microsite, IPC's YouTube channel and the World Para Alpine Skiing Facebook page

As well as the live stream, the 2018 World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup website, it will be the place to go to for live results, information about each event, video interviews and daily video highlights.
We can’t wait to watch all the action and wish the NZ Para athletes all the best.
