NZ Wheelchair Rugby’s toughest tournament of the 2018 season

Wheelchair Rugby Tournament 2018

Manawatu Wheelchair Rugby, in conjunction with NZ Wheelchair Rugby, is hosting Round 2 of the NZ Wheelchair Rugby Championship (WRC) at Central Energy Trust Arena in Palmerston North on Saturday 16th and 17th June. A full two days of competition commence at 9am on Saturday with teams battling to compete in the finals on Sunday at 12.30pm. The WRC’s see the toughest competition played across  NZ’s entire Wheelchair rugby season.

This year eight teams will battle it out for national pride with Athletes, Volunteer Officials and supporters coming together from across New Zealand. We know that players, officials, supporters and spectators will enjoy some great wheelchair rugby action over the weekend.

Prior to the WRC tournament, the Wheel Blacks (NZ Wheelchair Rugby elite team), are running their training camp in the Massey Teaching Gym at Massey University Sport & Rugby Institute. The Wheel Blacks came second in the recent World Qualifier Tournament and are now preparing for the  World Championships being held in August in Australia. If you are interested in seeing the NZ Wheel Blacks training this will take place on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th June.

NZ Wheelchair Rugby wishes to thank the Southern Trust for supporting our volunteer Officials to attend and run both WRC rounds. Thank you also to NZ Wheelchair Rugby’s sponsor, Travel Prefab, our preferred travel provider. Manawatu Wheelchair Rugby are gratefully supported by their local community for this event. The role of sponsors in our sport is critical. We wish to thank each and every one for your generous contributions. Without your help wheelchair rugby events would not be possible.
