2016 Summer Paralympic Games

The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games will be the fifteenth edition of the Summer Paralympic Games. This upcoming major international multi-sport event for disabled athletes is governed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). It will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 7 to 18 September 2016 and will be the first Summer Paralympics to be held during what is actually the host city's wintertime.

These Games will also mark the first time a Latin American and South American city hosts the event, the second time a Southern Hemisphere city and nation hosts the event (the first one being the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney), and also the first time a Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) country hosts the event. These Games will see the introduction of two new sports to the Paralympic programme; ParaCanoe and the ParaTriathlon.
